Digging Deeper with Allison LaMarr...

I write today’s column with mixed emotions, as there are many things on my heart and mind.    Today marks the two-year anniversary of Digging Deeper, and I can hardly believe how the time has flown since I sat down to write the first edition of this eColumn in 2008.  Many of you have been on this journey with me from the very beginning.  Our focus has been to explore a life of rising above the status quo as we commit to pursue a life of excellence.  Many others of you have joined us along the way, and this has become our chance to dig a little deeper in life...to stop for just a few moments amidst all the craziness and make sure that our perspective is clear, our priorities are in order, and our mindset is healthy in order to wage war on the mediocrity of life.  I am truly and humbly grateful for the opportunity to serve you and support you in some small way, and words cannot express what you have done for me along this journey.  With your permission, I’d like to deviate slightly from our normal routine this week and share something deeply personal.

Just over seven years ago, I walked away from every ounce of security that the “traditional” path held to begin a new chapter in my life.  I resigned from a career in corporate banking and withdrew from graduate school to devote my undivided attention toward my new passion – creating a life without limits for my family.  I found the solution I had been searching for with Mary Kay Inc.  The problem was that I hated the idea of sales and I didn’t really even consider direct sales to be a “career”.  But I decided to swallow my pride, set my preconceived notions aside, and jump into my new business with everything I had.

I soaked up every ounce of knowledge and experience that anyone would share with me, I studied hard, worked harder, and blocked out any inkling of negativity, skepticism, or doubt.  By my one-year anniversary with Mary Kay, I had earned two cars and a diamond ring, and paid off the last penny of our $30,000 in credit card debt.  Two years into it, I was earning more than five times my previous salary.  By my third year, I had already broken a half-dozen company records, including being the fastest to build a million-dollar organization and fastest to be appointed to the company’s top independent position of National Sales Director.  Now, five cars, 10+ carats in diamonds, annual all-expense-paid luxury international vacations and complete financial freedom for my family, I’m merely proof that you don’t have to be anyone remarkable to do remarkable things – just make the decision.

Over the past several years, I spent a great deal of time traveling around North America speaking to and working with thousands of women who had similar desires of creating a life of freedom and abundance for their families.  As I listened to their stories, dreams, and frustrations, a specific theme began to resonate within me, and I felt a new passion begin to boil.  My message was attracting the attention of women outside of direct sales into numerous varied professions, and I started to realize that my true purpose expands beyond the walls of any one company or industry.

So, after many months of prayer and consideration, examining the situation from every conceivable angle, and seeking the counsel of my own mentors, it is time again for me to begin a new chapter.  Earlier this week I announced my intent to retire early (at the "ripe old age" of 31!) as a Mary Kay Independent National Sales Director to the corporate office, and now I would like to publicly share it with you.

I can just imagine the rumors and creative reasons that are sure to emerge and circulate, so let me be clear on the purpose of my early retirement (just a few years shy of the standard age 65!) so that it comes straight from the source: My passion is the empowerment of all women in business, and I want to be able to focus all of my efforts on supporting this mission.  That’s it.  It’s not because I was asked to leave or have been declared mentally unstable (ha!) or any other crazy reason that is sure to pop up!  I have loved my journey with Mary Kay, and my desire is not to leave behind the relationships I’ve built.  In fact, my true hope is that we can all join together and unite in this higher purpose, and I hope to continue to make Mary Kay just as proud to call me part of their alumni as I will be to have been a part of it.

Let me share with you some quick stats on the current and forecasted picture of women in business.  There are more than 11 million women-owned businesses in America today.  The number of women-owned businesses has doubled in the past decade alone, and the growth rate of existing women-owned firms was nearly double that of other existing firms.

The overwhelming majority of these women have not yet been able to achieve the financial freedom they desire, because they’re either frozen in fear, stuck in procrastination, paralyzed by potential rejection, or a combination of all three.  These are very real and valid obstacles that we can all relate to, and they threaten to sabotage every woman in business, regardless of our chosen profession.  And it’s exactly these obstacles that I want to help women in business overcome.

So, in appreciation of all the women who have impacted my life in this chapter, and in celebration of what’s to come in the next, I have an amazing gift I’d like to share with you!  But first, let me give you a little background:

Several months ago, I started working with Murray Smith, a world-renowned speaker, author, business advisor and entrepreneur, best known as the New York Times best-selling co-author of The Answer, which offers the latest insights for how to grow your business so you can achieve financial freedom and live an extraordinary life.  Murray has built 13 of his own businesses and helped thousands of others achieve their potential in business.

I believe so strongly in my dream of empowering all women in business that I paid him $50,000 to teach me his expertise and help make my dream come true.  He’s just as passionate about my mission as I am, and in support of that, Murray is allowing me to share with you (at no cost to you) part of what I learned from him.  Together we are giving away more than a million dollars in resources to 5,000 women in business to help you increase your effectiveness and thrive in your business - simply click here to get all the juicy details!

This gift is designed and intended for every woman in business in North America, so you are invited to join this mission by sharing the gift with any women in business that you may know as well.  You see, if we can band together as a community of women in business to overcome our fears, procrastination, and rejection, then we can finally launch ourselves forward with confidence and certainty.  That confidence and certainty will create our business victories, which will establish the financial freedom that produces our dream life.

I have never been so overwhelmed with a sense of humble gratitude and joy as I am today.  My enthusiasm and excitement is about the potential of our future as women in business.  I must also confess that I am scared silly, as I have been at the transition between every single chapter of my life.  Words cannot express the deep appreciation I feel for my time with the Mary Kay Corporation, and there is no way I could even begin to articulate my feelings of joy, hunger, passion, and anticipation as I invite you to join me in the next chapter.  Let’s continue to Dig Deeper together!

Have you received your part of our MILLION DOLLAR gift to women in business & shared it with your friends?
If not, click here for details!

Dear Allison
Congratulations on your retirement! I can only imagine the turmoil inside that must take place when making such a huge decision. I know MK is not just a business, but a family. And yet, once you've made the decision, I know it's accompanied by such peace and a gusto to get going where you're headed! In MK, we certainly understand how the rumors can fly, but as I've watched your MK career from afar (Emerald Seminar affiliation) you've always risen above with integrity and grace. You have certainly made a positive impact and left inspiration in the hearts of so many more than you will ever know. I admire how you push past fears of what others might think and do what you know in your heart to be right and authentic. I've truly enjoyed the digging deeper journey with you. I wish you much continued success as you follow your big dreams, and can't wait to have you rock my reality at the upcoming sharpen your edge tour. Soar on silver wings girl! I am so proud of you.

First reaction: TOTALLY SPEECHLESS! It's difficult to imagine our MK world without you Allison. However, I know you would not be doing this if you were not sure that it was God who was moving you in this direction. I will continue to admire and respect you, and watch as you make your new passion and career a huge success. You're simply the best, and I pray God's blessing on every step of your journey.

Allison- I just want to say that you have been a great inspiration in my life. We entered DIQ with MK in the same month, and I have watched you grow and become such a great leader in the industry. I have been to many of your trainings, including Sharpen you Edge, and I have to say that you have been the best trainer that I have ever listened to. I have enjoyed Digging Deeper over the past 2 years, and have grown into what my desire and passion truly has become. I will always contribute my growth & self exploration to my MK years; you being a BIG part of that. I am so excited for your new journey, as this suits you so perfectly. I have always admired your desire to teach women and show them thier true potential. You definately will make a difference in the lives of many women. Here's to your Success!!

Allison,
As will happen to many of the women who soon read this post, there was a pause of deafening silence as I read your opening paragraph. Leaving? We have only just begun to follow, to learn, and to grow from the simple reality that excellence, discipline, and determination took an ordinary woman to extraordinary heights.
Once I managed to inhale, to read the rest of your story, to see where your passionate heart is taking you; I wanted to applause. I want to rise and be the first to give you a standing ovation for what will no doubt be another successfully brilliant stage of your life. Not because of your beauty or genius, though I won't argue either of these, but for your absolute commitment to do again what you regularly challenge your readers to do. Begin with the end result in mind.
Allison, I have no doubt that you have prayerfully planned this next step after carefully mapping out where you want to be, and what it will take for you to get there. So as you move forward on this new road I pray that you will do it as bravely, devotedly, and masterfully. I applaud you!

There is no doubt in my mind that God is going to use you in a mighty way to touch thousands more women. I don't believe there is a woman in Mary Kay who doesn't know who you are...hasn't heard your name...hasn't been exposed in some way, shape or form to your training. Every National speaks your name, refers to your success and respects you beyond measure.

I am so very proud of you for following your passion because it surely has come from above.

Dearest Allison; WOW! Yes, I as well gasped in the thoughts of you stepping up to the "Next Level" of your Life's Journey! As I read and truly felt your passion for empowering women in business, in my heart I am not surprised! I also feel compelled to share with you and others these words and beliefs; God works through those great leaders who walk in blind faith, are open to his callings and perform with love of others through integrity. Your growth in many areas, ideas, plans, implementation and refinement, all steps for "preparations of much bigger tasks" God has lead you to... have been exhilarating to watch. Your higher purpose; is to help women around the world and make a change; leave a legacy which we all have and will continue to benefit. Mary Kay herself would be so honored watching your steps into much larger shoes, as she was also called upon to do and her legacy continues to change the world into a better place! Know you will have many blessings in your path as you continue to serve! I will continue to follow and pray for your success! Thank you for giving so much of yourself to all of us! This is a bright new beginning!!

What's sure is that there's something more important than businesses or Mary Kay: the family, so i congratulate you, Alli, to have made the right decision. More time with your family, great time to live and enjoy, less time selling or working for others (Mary Kay).
So, let's bet for independence, 'cause spiritual independence is first that happens; economical independence goes after that.
Now you are beginning a new real life, i'm sure.

WOW! I went digging deeper with you and shared it with many...then on to RTN and shared it with many more. Now to be able to share in this news of the nest journey in your life, what a privilege.
This new transition is a great example of a statement I heard a while ago:
"Mary Kay may not be your be all to end all however Mary Kay can be a vehicle to help make dreams that God places in your heart, come true."
Congratulations!
"From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." Luke 12:48(NIV)"

This phase of your life, reminds me of the prayer of Jabez.

My first reaction to your announcement was NOOOOOOO......I don't want you to leave our Mary Kay world. I feel that I have learned so much from you and that you have so much more to teach so many more women in Mary Kay. I will miss seeing you at all of our events.

But then after reading your column again, I got it. I now remember that when I met you, I sensed that you had a very special gift to share with the world. And that your light is so bright that it needs to reach out as far as heavenly possible, and like you said, beyond the confines of one company. You have so much to share and give all women, and that is why you broke belief barriers at such a young age. I will really miss you and am personally so grateful for all that you have shared, taught, and inspired in me. You have set the bar high for all of us, and challenged us for living a life of excellence. Thank you for constantly inspiring me to dig deep, digging deeper is what is finally setting me up for mega success.

Congratulations again on your early retirement, from a very grateful heart.

Dear Allison,
I am so proud of you. I have enjoyed your insight, knowledge and just living life with you. You have inspired me, and made me dig deeper into my own life and of course my business. We will miss you in our little "Pink Bubble", however God has given you a talent to be shared with all women. It would be foolish not to obey the calling that God has placed on your life. Blessings to you and your family.

Allison,Wow! I heard this and then had to look this up and read it myself! Abraham who was the Father of Faith, went to a place he knew not...but went in obedience to GOD...I have to Believe that is what you are doing.I so
love my MK and just wanted to know it had nothing to do with something gone wrong there. I know now that you just need to Broadcast this Passion for Women in Business to past our MK world.
So all of us MK Ladies will continue to gleen from You ,Gurl. Thank you for what you have done, and will do for the Women that need this message, including me!

Allison,

You are an amazing young woman! Your leap of faith has touched the heart of God and empowered so many women. Your successful broadcast with David Cooper was empowering and insightful. You have transcended into yet another dimension of facet of leadership to the world. I am so grateful to God to know you, your message and spiritual assignment. My business, life and well-being are enhanced, empowered and established because of your tullage.

Scriptures state that "your gift will make room for you." This is a promise from GOD which you are currently walking in. Scriptures also state, "what you make happen for others, GOD will make happen for you." Young lady, prepare and continue to receive the many blessings of Our Heavenly Father, Our Lord Jesus Christ, Our Comforter The Holy Ghost.

Love & Peace,

Tanya Shorter
